Industry Analysts Predict PS6 Pricing Around $600 Amid Changing Gaming Landscape

Recent discussions within the gaming community reveal that Sony may be exploring pricing strategies for the upcoming PS6, with estimates indicating a potential cost around $600. Several industry experts have weighed in on the price dynamics, suggesting that there will be a need for higher prices during the next console generation.

In a conversation with GamesBeat, respected analyst Mat Piscatella highlighted that higher pricing is likely essential given the current slowdown in console hardware sales in the US. He noted that the $599 price point, which was once deemed problematic after the PS3's debut, has now been accepted by both PlayStation and Xbox. Piscatella expressed that he’d find it unsurprising if we observe such a price tag once more.

Similarly, Midia Research analyst Rhys Elliot anticipates a significant change in the pricing landscape, pointing out the contentious price of the PS5 Pro, which sits at $699.99. He predicts that future consoles, including the PS6 and Microsoft's next offering, will be priced at around $600. Elliot believes that Sony is clearly experimenting with pricing strategies through the PS5 Pro.

Daniel Ahmad from Niko Partners also contributed to the discussion by suggesting that the PS5 Pro targets a market that is less sensitive to pricing. He noted that manufacturers tend to offer lower-cost alternatives, such as the Nintendo Switch Lite, the Xbox Series S, and the PS5 Digital Edition. However, this generation has seen these budget options generally avoid permanent price reductions.

Ahmad estimates that the PS5 Pro could reach sales of about 10 million units over its lifetime, which represents roughly 10% of total PS5 sales. This suggests that, similar to PSVR 2, the mid-generation enhancements might appeal primarily to enthusiasts seeking the finest console graphic fidelity, though it may not attract a broad audience when compared to the more budget-friendly PS5 variants.
